Get inspired by the countries of the European North when beautifying your home and choosing lighting for every corner.

When hearing Scandinavia, we will probably imagine cold weather, suspenseful Nordic detective stories, successful hockey selections, or beautiful Aurora scenery. But Scandinavia is also an innovator and mover when it comes to design. So distinctive that it gave a name to a whole style, aptly and simply named Scandinavian. Equipping a home according to its characteristics is a way to modern airy rooms that include comfort and elegance at the same time. In the following paragraphs, we will show you what the Scandinavian style is like and how our lights can help you complete it.

How to recognize the Scandinavian style?

We have already given you a small tasting and insight into what attributes the Scandinavian style contains in the first paragraph. In addition to the list of adjectives, we can also go back in time. The roots of the Scandinavian style go back to a distant past. Time has made it into a highly thought-out and at the same time minimalist concept. If you don't like to be surrounded by a lot of things and rather reach for a quality and sophisticated layout with modern parameters, then it is the best choice for your home.

Elements of Nordic style in the home

1)    Let's start with the floor. Light wood tones dominate Scandinavian homes. It is mostly oak wood. It usually plays the role of the most distinct element.

2)    Minimalistic furniture. Less is more. And there is beauty in simplicity. Both clichés, but at the same time characteristic basic elements of Scandinavian furniture and its arrangement.

3)    Fine lines and surfaces. Don't expect distinctive design fads from the Scandinavian style. This also applies to the shapes and materials of all products. Wood and clean lines are a must.

4)    No wild colors.  Muted colors (white, grey, creamy, beige) do not equal boring rooms, on contrary, they emphasize their spaciousness.

5)    Meaningful accessories. Absence of kitsch, emphasis on functionality. Accessories in the Nordic style usually have a minimalist look and a sense that explains why they are in the home. Typical accessories are, for example, mirrors, textiles (blankets, pillows, bedspreads), or hanging frames for paintings and photographs.

6)    Natural light. Large French or classic windows, a frequent absence of curtains. So that there is enough sunlight coming into the room through the windows. This element is followed by the design of lights or bulbs, which are based on the Scandinavian style. And we will talk more about that in the next sentences.

Lights in (Scandinavian) style

Every corner of your home is a place that you can turn into the reincarnation of a beautiful house standing on the outskirts of Oslo or Stockholm. Let's take a look at the individual rooms together. Also, we can't miss the outdoor corners.

Living room

We start in the place where most of us spend the most time in addition to the bedroom. And let's start from the top. Ceiling lights are the perfect tool for creating the Scandinavian spirit of home. You can match the natural colors of the pendant chandelier lampshade, especially with the wooden parts of the furniture. Because the Nordic style includes both all-wood furniture and a combination of wood and other materials (especially metal), the journey will not be difficult. The natural color is in perfect contrast to another important feature of the Scandinavian style - the black color. In addition, the light it radiates has the ambition to become the most distinctive element of the whole space after it gets dark.

Example: Chandelier on a string AXEL or chandelier on a string CEED

Bedroom

In addition to ceiling lights, the most noticeable Nordic-style bearers in rooms are lamps. And not just the design ones. The lamp is above all a resource for creating cozy living, which the people of the Scandinavian countries place great emphasis on. Endless nights and gloomy weather behind the windows, which lasts for days and weeks, require some helpers. If there is no natural light from the fire in the form of a fireplace, the lamp can represent it perfectly. Of course, this is not only true in the far north, in our latitudes we also encounter days when it is simply the best choice to lie down on a bed with a pleasant book and switched lamp.

Example: Floor lamp GALAXY or pendant light OLVERO

Outdoor spaces

The Scandinavian style is an open style and it also takes the best from the other styles. Especially from other European countries. Outdoor lighting in a garland style has its roots in ancient Greece and Rome. The ancient Romans and Greeks first used natural motifs for decorative garland chains and composed them of flowers or fruit. For centuries, we waited for Edison and his bulb so that light chains (garlands) as we know them today could have been created. Scandinavian-style ones follow their characteristics - natural warm light and a contrasting dark chain. With an outdoor chain, you can turn even an ordinary dinner in the middle of the week into a romantic experience.

Example: Outdoor decorative chain GIRLANDA or wall light SIGMA MINI

Whether you decide to project the Scandinavian style into the whole home or to "only" learn some of its elements from it, you will not make a mistake.

So: "Lycka till!"
