LED lighting – everything you need to know

News and announcements

Paulina

You have surely heard about it. Maybe you're even thinking about getting one. Are you still hesitating, or do you not have enough information? That's why we're here to bring you a summarizing article about LED lighting that will tell you everything important about it.

Why LED lighting?

When traveling on a timeline, we find four basic developmental types of light sources. From the classic ones (tungsten) to the halogen ones, the economical ones, and the LEDs (Light Emitting Diod). And the time sequence culminating in 1962 with the invention of LED lights also reveals to us the technological leaps and associated advantages of the mentioned light sources.

8 main advantages of LED lighting

There are 2 key advantages of purchasing LED lights. The first one is low energy consumption, which, compared to a classic bulb, achieves up to 90% savings. Not even halogen bulbs can be compared to the ones with LED technology since they are three times more expensive. In addition to saving energy, LED lighting also brings a longer life span in which it surpasses the other types by 25,000 hours of illumination. And what's more: The lifetime of the LED source doesn't get reduced by its frequent switching on or off. Ultimately, the low consumption and longer life of LED lighting make it worthwhile financially, as both advantages offset its higher cost over time. The list of benefits doesn't even end here. Other important advantages include:

  • Low temperature, thanks to which there is no overheating.
  • Full power, which is achieved immediately after switching on.
  • High durability ideal for outdoor use.
  • Safe operation, minimizing the risk of electric shock.
  • Ecological benefit that guarantees the absence of harmful substances and the use of recyclable materials.

How to select a suitable LED lighting

Mainly, you need to think about your needs and the required functionality. Do you want outdoor lights? Then you should look at an important indicator. That is the IP protection value, which will show you the degree of protection of the source against external influences, which mainly include the weather. The higher the value, the higher the degree of protection. But do not forget that it can also "rain" inside. Therefore, a light with a higher IP protection will also be suitable, for example, in the bathroom or kitchen. Anywhere where there is water. For all types of lights as well as bulbs, luminosity (intensity) and light color (chromaticity) are also very important attributes determining the atmosphere of its surroundings. Last but not least, it is necessary to mention the importance of design and the overall setting of lighting at home. And since you already know what to focus on when choosing, we can go ahead and make bold choices.

Living room and bedroom

We spend a lot of time in the living room, so we shouldn't underestimate the selection of LED lights. The basics are ceiling lights, chandeliers, or spotlights, ideally in shades of warm white color so that it doesn't shine too bright. A truly perfect experience of listening to or watching TV will then bring you our wide selection of LED strips. However, there are evenings when we simply feel like relaxing. Small lamps will give you the gloom in the corner of the room, or a welcomed light source for reading a favorite book. In addition to the living room, the soft yellow shade of the warm white color of the ceiling light is also a suitable choice for the bedroom. The ceiling light here is, again, the basis of the room's lighting. As with the living room, you can complete it with a small lamp to accompany your moments while reading the book.

Kitchen

As with the living room, a ceiling light is the basis of lighting in the kitchen. It will provide you with lighting for less demanding activities. If you have lower ceilings, you can go for surface-mounted lights, and if you have higher ceilings, we recommend getting a chandelier with an adjustable height. But the kitchen is a room that needs an even more intensive light source. Spotlights or recessed LED lights provide illumination of shelves and niches, for illumination of the kitchen counter we recommend LED strips that evenly illuminate the desired space. In both cases, shades of daytime white are suitable.

Bathroom

Be safe and see yourself well. Those are the two main parameters that bathroom lights should have. The first one will be ensured by LED lights with a higher degree of IP protection, that protects from water damage or humid air. During showering and doing your make-up in the mirror, the daytime white of the light is more than enough. Both for the ceiling light and the one connected to the bathroom mirror.

Children's room and office

The combination of warm white or daytime white color is perfect for a children's room and office. And that's because of their multi-purpose. Both rooms also require a combination of ceiling light with a small table lamp. In the children's room, let's not forget playful elements or a bedside lamp.

Corridors, stairs, garages and basements

Ceiling, wall, LED spotlights. But also sensor lights. For LED lights for corridors, stairs, garages, or basement areas, consider using a cool white light shade to improve your orientation in space due to its intensity.

Outdoors

Our e-shop has many types of outdoor LED lights. When selecting them, look at the degree of IP protection referring to the light resistance during inclement weather. You can place some of the LED outdoor wall lights at the front door, either with a sensor or a classic switch. A popular choice for your garden will be a variety of LED floodlights. And don't forget the outdoor LED lamp in the garden or near the pool. The terrace or outdoor seating area with a gazebo is perfectly lit with LED pendant lights.

One last tip: saving

LED lighting will help you with saving even more energy and money if you choose the right type. The first one is the LED sensor lighting. It will ensure savings simply because it never shines unnecessarily. Another advantage is your comfort. The sensor turns the light on when it detects the movement and then turns off again after noticing that you have left the source's range. So you'll save time looking for the light switch. Other economical options to help you save energy and time include smart bulbs. In addition to taking less energy as they dim, their advantage is automation. You'll never be in a situation where you forget to turn off the lights when you leave the house. Because they can turn themselves off. If you're looking for the latest trends, then you can take a look at ultra-efficient lighting. It uses new technologies to reduce the carbon footprint, material waste, and energy consumption. The ultra-efficient lighting reaches a barely believable lifespan of up to 50,000 hours (the equivalent of 50 years).
