When purchasing a children’s light, it is necessary to remember that a child might spend the whole day in a room doing various activities therefore, lighting should be chosen accordingly.
A lamp mustn’t dazzle a child
In the middle of a children’s room it is suitable to place a ceiling light or a chandelier (you can read more in the article How to choose a children’s chandelier), but also equally important is to illuminate the space by a bed and mainly a desk. We don’t recommend buying floor lamps or other lights with long cables as a child might trip over them. Thus, wall lights can be used, but the most suitable are children’s lamps. You can move them freely on a desk and that way change a direction and intensity of the light. You will especially appreciate a flexibility of such lamps when writing. To avoid shading, a right-hander should have a lamp on the left side and on the contrary a left-hander on the right side of a desk. You also have to make sure that a lamp doesn’t dazzle a child. A lamp has to have an opaque lampshade and a light bulb mustn’t stick out of a lamp. As far as a height of a lamp is concerned, it is recommended that the light illuminates the desk from a height of about 30 cm (depending on how tall a child is) and an angle of incidence should be between 60 and 70 degrees. Here it is advisable when a child can adjust a beam angle as needed. Therefore, we recommend buying children’s lamps with a flexible arm.

And two more advice in the end: A lamp must stand on a firm and flat surface so that it doesn’t fall. What is also good is when there is another light shining along with a lamp. This prevents from sudden light transition, which leads to eye fatigue.
